How to Graduate
For the MCS Major, two quarters before you plan to graduate:
- Update your program sheet. This is the same Google sheet from when you declared your major.
- Make sure your program sheet is shared via Google drive with Amanda (aekuhn [at] stanford.edu (aekuhn[at]stanford[dot]edu)) and LaShanette (lbreazel [at] stanford.edu (lbreazel[at]stanford[dot]edu)). Please give them both editing access.
- Fill in grades for classes you have already taken.
- Update and highlight the classes you plan to take in the future. Make note of the quarter and year in which you plan to take those classes.
- Make sure everything on your program sheet is up-to-date and accurate.
- Log in to My Academic Path (MAP) and run an audit. Confirm that your major progress is correct. Move classes as needed, and email Amanda (aekuhn [at] stanford.edu (aekuhn[at]stanford[dot]edu)) or schedule a meeting ASAP if you notice any errors.
- Make sure you've gotten approval and submitted the appropriate form(s) for any substitutions or transfer credit you’re using toward the major.
- If you still need to get approval for a substitution, please submit the Data Science/MCS Requirement Inquiry Form.
- Request to use transfer credit toward the major.
- Submit the major progress check form for seniors by Monday, December 9, 2024.
- Feel free to schedule a meeting with Amanda for any of the following reasons – or just to say hi!
- You have questions about this process
- You feel concerned or unsure about how you’re going to fulfill your major requirements
- You want to double-check that you’re on track for graduation
- You want to chat about how senior year is going
Other Steps:
- Be on the lookout for an email from our student services team about information for our program’s commencement ceremony. We typically send this email in March, and it will include a required participation survey.
- We recommend reaching out to your VPUE academic advisor (UAD) to make sure you’re on track in completing all of your university requirements (WAYS, etc.). If you have a double major or minor, check in with someone from your other program(s) to make sure you’re on track for those requirements too.
- Don’t forget to apply to graduate in Axess! For spring graduation, the application to graduate opens in early March and is due in mid-April.
- At the beginning of your last quarter, run another audit through My Academic Path (MAP) to make sure it shows green check marks (completed) or blue diamonds (in progress) by every requirement.
- Review Stanford’s Graduation Checklist.
