Post-Graduation Plans

Commencement 2017 - graduates wave Stanford flags
Linda Cicero/Stanford News Service

We are commonly asked where our students who graduate with a degree in Mathematical & Computational Science go post-graduation.  Roughly one third of students go on to complete a coterminal Masters degree in Statistics, Management Science & Engineering, Computer Science, Biomedical Informatics, and Computational & Mathematical Engineering.  However, students do not necessarily need to complete a coterminal degree to achieve success in the field.  Those who enter the workforce directly following graduation get careers in data science, actuarial science, finance, risk management, and product management.  Several of our recent students have even embraced the entrepreneurial spirit fostered here in the San Francisco Bay Area and have started their own companies! A few more career paths followed by recent graduates are listed below.

  • Data Scientist
  • Quantitative Trading
  • Healthcare consulting
  • Google Brain Research Residency
  • Software Engineer
  • Software Developer
  • Health Insurance Actuary
  • Risk Management
  • Investment Management
  • Product Management
  • Management Consulting
  • Business Consulting
